" But You Say…. "

The following quotation regarding the Sea of Galilee is provided, namely: " GALILEE, SEA OF  (Găl´ ĭ lēē)  Place name meaning, ' circle. '  A freshwater lake nestled in the hills of northern Palestine.  Its surface is nearly 700 feet below the level of the Mediterranean, some thirty miles to the west.  The nearby hills of Galilee reach an altitude of 1,500 feet above sea level.  To the east are the mountains of Gilead with peaks of more than 3,300 feet.  To the north are the snow-covered Lebanon mountains.  Fed chiefly by the Jordan River, which originates in the foothills of the Labanon Mountains, the sea of Galilee is thirty miles long north and south and eight miles wide at its greatest east-west distance.  Because of its location, it is subject to sudden and violent storms which are usually of short duration.  In the Old Testament this sea is called Chinnereth.  See Chinnereth.  It is named only rarely, however, and all references but one relate to the Hebrew conquest of Palestine under Joshua.  In New Testament times it was also called the ' lake of Gennesaret. '….  In the first century the sea of Galilee was of major commercial significance.  Most Galilean roads passed by it, and much travel to and from the east crossed the Jordan rift there.  Fish was a major food in the area, and the fishing industry flourished because there was no other significant freshwater lake in the region.  Capernaum, which played a major role in the ministry of Jesus, was a center of that industry. "1  Jesus was in Gennesaret at the time of Matthew, chapter fifteen ( see Matthew 14:13-36 ).  NOTE: The picture, located at the upper, left corner of this paragraph, was downloaded from the " bing.com " web page.2

The Greek word ( Greek [ 3544 ] ), for the word " lawyers, " in Luke 11:46 ( KJV, for example ) is the same Greek word for the word " lawyer " in Titus 3:13, for example.  This Greek word simply means in the New Testament an interpreter and teacher of the Mosaic law.3  Thus, God calls those lawyers, who misinterpret the Law of Moses, religious scholars, and honest lawyers He simply calls lawyers.  The Bible clearly teaches that there are good and bad laywers in this world.  This, in turn, means that the word " scholars " is NOT always viewed favorably by God.  The religious scholars misinterpreted Mosaic law to try to justify dishonoring their parents.

Sometimes God's word is misinterpreted for selfish reasons.  Selfishness is a sin.  In Philippians 2:3 ( RSV ), it is written, " 3Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves " ( Emphasis mine, R.E.W. ).

Religious scholars say things contrary to God's will ( see Matthew 7:21-27 and James 1:22, for example ).  Please seek and read from the book of the LORD ( see Isaiah 34:16, for example ). Please examine the Scriptures daily, as the Jews of Berea did ( see Acts 17:10, 11, for example ).
