But Paul Chose Silas.

The apostle Paul embarked on his second missionary journey, with Silas, after his sharp disagreement with Barnabas ( please begin at Acts 15:36, and read through Acts 18:22, to get the immediate context ).  The name " Barnabas " means " son of encouragement " ( see Acts 4:36, for example ).  Thus, the Bible clearly teaches that a brother, who has a reputation as an encourager, can be involved in a sharp contention.  Paul and Barnabas were in Antioch of Syria at the time of their disagreement ( see Acts 15:35, for example ).  The following quotation is provided regarding Antioch, namely: " ANTIOCH  (Ăn´ tĭ·ŏch) names two New Testament cities one of which was home to many Diaspora Jews (Jews living outside of Palestine and maintaining their religious faith among the Gentiles) and the place where believers, many of whom were Gentiles, were first called Christians.  1. The largest city of the Roman empire after Rome in Italy and Alexandria in Egypt.  Because so many ancient cities were called by this name, it is often called Antioch on the Orontes (River) or Antioch of Syria.  Antioch was founded around 300 B.C. by Seleucus Nicator.  From the beginning it was a bustling maritime city with its own seaport.  It lay about 20 miles inland from the Mediterranean in ancient Syria on the Orontes River nearly three hundred miles north of Jerusalem. "1  NOTE: The picture, to the upper, left corner of this paragraph, was downloaded from the " bing.com " web page.2

John Mark was the one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia ( see Acts 15:37, 38, for example ).  John Mark was the cousin of Barnabas.  In Colossians 4:10, 11, it is written, " 10p Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark q the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions — r if he comes to you, welcome him), 11 and Jesus who is called s Justus.  t These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and u they have become a comfort to me. "  Moreover, John Mark's mother was Mary, for in Acts 12:12, it is written, " 12 When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of xJohn whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and y were praying " ( Emphasis mine, R.E.W. ).

If we will learn to be slow to anger, then this reduces the risk of having a fit of anger ( see Galatians 5:20, for example ).  In James 1:19, 20, it is written, " 19g Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person h be quick to hear, islow to speak, j slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. "  Being slow to anger is one characteristic of a child of God ( see Galatians 3:26, 27, for example ).

After their sharp disagreement, Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas.  Love does no wrong to a neighbor ( see Romans 13:10, for example ).  Please examine the Scriptures daily, as the Jews of Berea did ( see Acts 17:10, 11, for example ).
